(Re)joining Teamliquid

My esports journey started on the teamliquid forums in 2003.

My first account was promptly banned for its very first post, and my second, “Hot_Bid” eventually ended up with 36,000, most of which were in live report threads for 180p korean starcraft proleague matches or in TSL threads where we caught ladder abusers.

In 2010, when I was fresh out of school, working for TL the website instead of a law firm, the pro team was just starting to grow. I remember the late night website-down 4am queens food truck runs, riding flat tire bikes in Utrecht, and traveling to MLG events. When Jinro was playing in GSL, I realized I cared about Liquid more than the Knicks.

I remember forcing Victor to watch the smash documentary and signing smash players for the first time. I remember traveling to TI3 and watching the team beat LGD, and then editing my handheld camera footage into a video. There’s so, so much more, but I’ll save it for my esports memoir.

I’ve had a bunch of jobs since then, including producing stadium events for ESL, executing the Summit series for Beyond the Summit, and most importantly, writing Esports Express articles, but I’ve never stopped following the Liquid organization. What TL has accomplished since then has been remarkable, in game and out.

A decade ago, both Liquid and I were esports kids, and now we’re adults, and with that come bigger stakes and more eyes. I’m looking forward to chatting with old friends and meeting new, talented co-workers.

Excited for the challenges ahead.

When in doubt, ask yourself: What would make a better story? ESL 2015. ESPORTS life since 2010.
